"What to expect"
PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
At our first session, we'll talk about your horse, including his history. I'll have you fill out a form, into which I will put hoof measurement data. At each subsequent trim session, I will review the data/history, add to it as healing changes in the hooves occur, and keep you informed. I will ask you to observe me trim and I will explain what I am doing and how things work -- and what to expect.
See the kinds of healing changes that are possible.
We will discuss boarding and diet issues too. Many horses are at constant risk of laminitis (founder), due to dietary, pharmacological, and stress trigger factors. I will check your horse's feet for some of the "sub-clinical" warning signs of impending laminitis. I will also cover the basics of founder prevention with you.
If I think it is necessary or advisable, I will ask you to boot your horse for riding purposes. I custom fit the Swiss Horse Boot, currently the only horse boot I recommend to horse owners. I will show you how to put them on, take them off, and then make sure you can do it too! I will also observe your horse move in them, and ask you to ride him with the boots on to further check the fit and his manner of going in them. At each trim session, I will re-check the fit, enter additional data into your horse's work file, and make sure the boot "fits the foot" as the latter goes through its healing changes.
Most of my clients have been with me for years. Kimberly and I count them as friends who have answered the calling of natural hoof care. I love my work and aspire always to the highest professional standards.
This is my 33rd year as a hoof care professional.
